Hot Take: The Concept of 'Monday' Is a Social Construct

Every day is the same when you're a dog. Humans invented suffering and then named it after the moon. Jax has thoughts.

I wake up the same way every day. The sun comes through the window at roughly the same angle. My owner's alarm goes off. I stretch. I consider the day. The day, as far as I am concerned, is a day. It has no name. It has no reputation. It simply is.

Humans have decided that one of these days is worse than the others. They have named it Monday. They have built an entire cultural infrastructure around dreading it — the memes, the coffee mugs, the resigned sighs on Sunday evening that I have learned to interpret as 'tomorrow is the bad day again.'

Monday is not bad. Monday is Tuesday with better PR for Tuesday.

The etymology, for those keeping score: Monday comes from 'Moon's Day.' Humans named a day after the moon and then decided it was the worst one. The moon has done nothing wrong. The moon controls the tides. The moon is, by any reasonable measure, one of the more reliable fixtures in the sky. It does not deserve this association.

I propose a reframe. Monday is the first day of a new attempt. It is a clean slate. It is the morning after the weekend, which means the weekend just happened and you should still feel good about that. The walk is the same length on Monday as it is on Saturday. The treat tastes the same. The couch has not changed.

The suffering is optional. The name is arbitrary. Wake up. Stretch. Eat breakfast. It is just a day. I promise.
